I generally am mixing back into my computer, but if I have a bunch going on in the mix while its in the computer as a multi-track, and I am rerecording the 2 track back in, it can cause some issues.

I'm looking around at reel to reel deck at the moment - it seems like a good way to go.

By the way, do any DAT's run at 24 bit or are they all 16 or 20 bit?

Thanks
Hey chrispnyc, Tascam makes a dat that records at 24 bit. I think the model is #DA-45HR, can't remember exactly. Kind of expensive though the last price I saw!.. BTW.... I master to dat and Masterlink !... 8)

What are your thoughts on the Masterlink?

How are the converters? Can you compare them to any others on the market?

UTFSF. There's a ton of converter-specific info on that unit on this board.

Sorry, if that's addressedto me, I left a link in the chain out - I use a Rosetta 96 for AD into the Masterlink

the general consensus seemed to be they are not all that.

Hey Retrograde, how is the Rosetta? Much talk about the older Apogee stuff not being up to par (the newer converters 200, Mytek, Lucid, etc)! How do the Rosetta 96 compare to the on board Masterlink converters? Thanks... :?

I prefer the Rosetta converters to the Masterlink converters. I haven't really sussed out any of the newer converters. The Rosetta 96 sound good enough to me. I'm doing mostly elec. guitar based rock/brit pop stuff and frankly don't feel the need to spend more $$$ on converters. What I've got does the job for me.

I should have jumped on the Rosetta's a few months ago. Now they are going on Ebay for $700-800. Too much if you ask me. Bring down to $500-600 and I'm in.

It seems that there is a lack of 2 channel nice conversion these days. I don't know why else the Rosetta's have gone up in price in recent months...
