cheap headphone amps

I've used the search function, and none of the threads seem to answer my question. I am putting together a small recording outfit (ie cheap demo stuff), mostly for myself, maybe a few bands. But, I need a headphone amp. Would the ones that I see on ebay (samson, alto, behringer) work ok for my needs?
I just want monitoring, people won't be listening to mixes through them.

I have the Samson. Works great but the actual 1/4" connectors are too tight on mine. I was pulling out a cable, gently I might add, and broke one of the internal jacks on the front panel inserts. Bummer. . .

I have the Alto and I love it. I was nervous at first because I had never heard of Alto, but I figured for $100 I could return it if I didn't like it. I was very pleased. Six channels with seperate amps for each channel, It cranks and you can blend two signals, making it easey to give someone a diferent mix or just send guitars while they are standing next to the drummer and instantly switch to the engineer mix with drums for overdubs. I would highly recomend it. Before I owned the Alto I had one of those ART headamps (Worst buy ever) although I have used it a few times to create distortion the only thing it does well.

I've a paia headphone amp I built a few years back I'd sell for cheap. Works great. I switched to a power amp and passive attenuator, so am not using this.

Me to, I bought the 4 out Behringer ?berphones Pro a while back for $80 from GC I think they have a 8 output one now.

OH Crap! I just admitted to buying Behringer crap from Guitar Center! I despise myself.

I've got the Rolls 4 channel and I've got no problems with it, of course it's a little noisy, but what do you expect for under $50?

Also keep your eyes out for used ones. I picked up an older Samson Q5 headphone amp, which works fine, for like $50. Half rack unit with 5 heaphone outs and can link up to other headphone amps.

I've got the Presonus one - its about $80. I picked that over the cheaper Rolls because 1) less noisy 2) its got a 'mono' switch 3) you can run your nearfield monitors out of it and switch them off/on and have a seperate volume designated just for that.

+1 on the Behringer 4 amp unit. Faboo cheap piece o' kit.

You can have 8- channels of head phones. That whay you can record the whole band with headphones and and probably stll have some left for whatever you need.

I think they are about 120 - 150 new.

I've use a 1/3 rack Crate 5 channel HP amp for about 5 years now, and I've had no problems with it (except that I now have the tip of a Radio Shack HP adapter permanently lodged in Ch2). I bought new for under $100 when it came out, but I think the price has gone up a bit since.
