What can I use this for??

I have a Shure M367 mic/line mixer like this one:

just sitting around my house, it has been used very little, and I am thinking about selling it, unless you guys can give me an idea of some uses for it.

How do the pres and limiter sound?

If it has a unique tone, I'd try it out as a simple channel strip. Try pushing a kick drum through it hard see how it reacts

If you record on a DAW, run six outputs (bypass your software's master fader) through your soundcard into this unit, then take the 2 outs of the unit back into 2 inputs of your DAW and record the mix into 2 channels in your software.

Compare it to a mixdown file exported from your recording software and see what kind of differences you find.

Just a suggestion. Null if you're not recording on a DAW.

It means sending a number of tracks or subgroups from your DAW out through individual D/A converters so that they can be mixed (summed) in the analog realm and then recording the 2-track result. It's a hot topic right now. I believe the mixer you're referring to has a mono output and no pan assigns so it's probably no good for this purpose - unless of course you're mixing in mono.

yes check out the limiter before you get rid of it. it might be useful as a pre for a different things too. also just try hitting it really hard with various things like synths, other keys, guitars what have you. it may distort very nicely. im a firm believer that you should NEVER get rid of a piece of gear. even if you only find one use for it. once its gone you'll never be able to get that sound again. but then again you don?t know how it sounds until you try it.

send a copy of your drum kit room or overhead mic through the limiter. squash it silly. mix it mildly with your overall kit.

They are tough and reliable little mixers meant for conference room installations or news gathering. I can't imagine it would be too terribly useful in recording other than having around for an occasional odd sound, and it's up to you to decide whether that sound is worth keeping it, or if selling it for $200 on eBay would get you something else that lends a more useful weird sound more often.
But then, if you play out live, these kinds of mixers are very handy since they allow you to submix a bunch of mono channels if the board is too small. That's handy for backing vocal mics, horns, or multiple mics/pickups on the guitar rig that could get summed there and then sent down one channel on a board. That's why the box has a line level & mic level output.

i've got an older crappier 6ch version of this lying around somewhere. i don't think that i've used it in 5+ years. what was nifty though, is that you could run it off from a 9v battery. excellent for budget remote recording to video. that's when i last used it...
