"Cold-soldering" soldering iron?

This item is total spin city. I just love that blurb from the web site. I think the new material should actually be called bullshitium
It's a technology called resistive soldering. This is far from new. I built one in the 70's to do delicate soldering work on some of my model railroad brass engines. The new twist is that it's cordless.

Where does resistive soldering shine?
If you want to solder small parts on an assembly withother parts that you don't wat to have come loose.
Where does it suck?
Just about anything you'd want to do audio or electronics wise.

My wife bought me one for Christmas. I've repaired a few cables with it and I'm happy. I hat soldering and I'm bad at it so any little help is a good thing for me.

The problem with this thing is that it heats the solder, not the work. If you needed to know one thing about how to solder, it's that you heat the work and NOT the solder.
If you dig cold solder joints, then this is the tool for you. The name couldn't be more appropriate!
