I own a PM-2000. I love it. I have not used the other boards.

i've got a pm1000. limited routing, limited eq, but thing sounds awesome.
buy one now while they're still cheap. with everyone racking these things, they're probably going to get stupid expensive in the near future...

Re: old Yamaha mixers PM1000, m1516
In my other career as a touring live sound engineer, I've run across many of the PM series mixers. They sound pretty decent; although I've never used one in a studio environment, I've gotten some pretty good board tapes off of them. In a classic engineering attempt to be different, for a while these were made with the pan pot at the top of the channel and the input gain directly above the fader, I think on the 2K. Infuriating! especially when you go to pan something right and habitually reach for that knob above the fader, and instead blow your speakers, or the ears of a few hundred happy concertgoers with a howling surge of feedback... but i digress. Sonically, these are certainly considered good, classic boards in the live arena. I believe they hold their value pretty well, although with larger venues now putting in digital sound reinforcement systems (Yuck!), they may be getting cheap. Check E-bay... However, alot of these have seen years on the road or installed in smoky, beer spilling environments, so I'd be very careful where you look. I've heard alot of really scratchy faders on these things...
