brian wilson singing

Post by these_go211 » Tue Feb 15, 2005 10:21 am

ok, so i am wearing my flame retardant suit for this.

is it just me or should brian wilson stop singing? don't get me wrong, i love the guy and think he is a brilliant musical genius. but did you hear him at the grammys? and last nite he was on entertainment tonite. he sang a few songs. it was very painful to hear and see.

excuse me, i must now go apply for the witness protection program.

Oh...everybody sounded shitty on that. Why you gotta hate on Brian? I was kinda excited to see him and Stevie Wonder on the same stage.
Dream match? That'd be a record. wow.

I have seen him a couple times, and he generally sounds pretty good by the end of the show. He doesn't warm up, so if he plays just one or two songs, yes, its rather disturbing. He's not what he was. Or is he was he is?

I like how he sounds far from perfect. I guess it makes the songs seem more personal to me.
And yeah, even Stevie Wonder and Norah Jones sounded bad the other night. That's not an easy thing to do, so the Grammy's must have worked extra hard at it.

yea, there were a few on the grammys that didn't sound great. but the piece on entertainment tonite was especially painful to hear.

i'm not trying to tear the guy down, really. it was mainly an observation and thinking, well, maybe it's just me.

I'm pretty sure B Wilson uses autotune these days. Live there wasn't a single flat note. I can't imagine someone as damaged as him being able to do that without something.

As a Beach Boys obsessive, I will admit that Brian's voice has long since left him, and his band really carries him vocally. I don't mind that. The music is still wonderful.

The thing about the Across The Universe cover on the Grammys, EVERYONE sounded horrible on that because it was somehow in everyone's WORST key.

Didn't see Grammys (Thank God) or ET. I'm a huge BB/B Wilson fan....saw him at Carnegie Hall in Oct and it was the best concert I ever saw (SMiLE) by far.

On all his old stuff, sure, his falsetto was amazing. But the really special thing was his TONE....totally unique. He'll never be what he was, but if you listen closely, he still has an amazing, unique tone (even if its out of key!).

Actually the thing I found the most disturbing/revealing/vindicating about Across the Universe is the one and only person (IMHO) that seemed to be singing with excellent pitch and apropriate style and phrasing was Billy Joe from Green Day. Just shows ta go ya I guess. More respect and less egomaniac showboating.

True story, Caldo.

Billy Joe has never been pitchy. He may not exhibit an astonishing or trained voice, but he's always on pitch.

It doesn't get much better than that.

You're so right! And I don't even know how they did this, with that range of vocalists. Norah Jones sounded alright, but not great.
