Anybody have Blue Balls?

Post by eflatminor » Wed May 14, 2003 12:08 pm

I placed an order for the new Blue mic but it appears to be back ordered, at least in the Chicago area. Anyone else get 'the ball' or whatever they're calling it? They were supposed to be shipped last month.

While I don't know what it sounds like yet, I'm intrigued by the idea of a dynamic mic that requires phantom power. I figured for under $200, I'd give one a try untested.

I know it's probably a marketing ploy, but I would be oh-so-greatfull if you posted your honest opinions up here after at least a month of use.

I find myself doubting that it is in production yet. I have yet to see a pic of it that is not CG. Every retailer that claims to have it does NOT. Has anyone here actually seen one up close? So very curious...

I just ordered one the other day. My source tells me they're due in there the 23rd of May. They also said 75% of the consignment was spoken for, so I thought I'd get my order in.
Hopefully, it'll be, among other things, the bass drum, LF mike I've been needing.
I'll post when/after I get it.
I'd get a Baby Bottle, but can't justify having another large diaphragm condenser, as I have 4 already.

I would love to hear your thoughts once you get it. I am very curious about this product. Not that I really need another mic.

No one's going for the obvious joke? Aw, c'mon people!

:D

I, too, would like to hear your impressions once you get the mic.

Being a tremendous fan of the Neumann CMV563 with M7 capsule, I am intrigued to try their Kiwi model. I did try the Baby Bottle and was very disappointed in it's cheap, chirpy microphonic-ness. Being their budget mic, I'm sure it didn't get all the design care. I stick to a few thousand $$$ to get a decent one from them though. If you have a chance, find a rental company and rent one before you buy.

I really like the sound of the BLUE Baby bottle on guitar amps/cabs. Mines constantly parked in front of an amp alongside a 57.

I used 2 for a week. Everything we tried it/them on lost out to something better we had access to. The best thing I heard with them that I'd actually buy a pair for was using them like a cheapy Binaural mic in a very large reflective live room for drums. If you try it, just be prepared for many blue balls and death star jokes.

yea, the blue ball is a strange mic. i hated it at first, now i dont hate it, but wonder when i will want to use it. it sounds like a mic in the middle of a ball.

cup your hands over your ears... sort of sounds like that...

anyone want mine for $145?

I saw the Wilco documentary last night for the first time and Jeff Tweedy sure spends a lot of time singing right into a Blue Mouse. His vocals always sound fantastic to me. Maybe because he's got a great voice. He also spends a lot of time singing into a funny-looking Shure Bros. Mic, anyone know what that was?
