I've always pronounced it like the Russian name "Yuri" (you-ree, accent on the 1st syllable).

doesn't it blow your mind to find out that you've been pronouncing a company's name wrong?? I've done that tons of times where I've been like "oh, this is the such and such 2000, it's amazing" and then they promptly correct me on the name, and I feel like a complete JACKASS!!

Here's one. How do you pronounce Alesis?? I've always thought it was El-I-sis, but I've recently heard A-liss-ees.

This is a great thread, believe it or not.

A lot of us READ things all the time, but rarely do we hear the horse's mouth say it's name.

Urei, I think, is globally accepted as YURI

Alesis is globally accepted as UH-LEE-SIS

The one's that I can't seem to get two people to say the same way are:

Behringer (because of their Germanness, and their logo, I call them BEAR-RING-ER, most call them BEAR-IN-JER)

D'addario (I've called them DUH-DARIO for years, and it seems most people are calling them DEE-UH-DARIO)

Astrid Gilberto (I call her GIL-BEAR-TOE. Some call her JILL-BEAR-TOE or JILL-BERR-TOE)

Stapes (some, from the spelling of this odd word, pronounce it STAYP'S. I have heard it from the horse's mouth, however, that it is officially, in fact STAY-PEE'S)

okay, so tell us!

Is is LANG-A-VIN, or LANJ-IH-VIN?

Also, I've never heard Neve pronounced other than NEEEEEVE.

Actually, I've always said "HEEL-BEAR-TOE," y'know, with her being Brazilian and all. But if you wanted to 'mericanize it, I think "GIL-BEAR-TOE" would be closest.

for years i was refering moog synths as "mewgs". then in college i had a professor who once had bob moog's daughter in one of his classes and he informed me that it was actually pronounced "mowg" (as in mow-g the lawn). i was saddened because i thought "mewg" sounded more appropriate.

Yes, it is MOHG, like Andy Moog, the hockey player.

I have pronounced it that way for years, and then when the Moogerfooger pedals came out, it started to sound funny saying "mohger-fohger"

I still say it that way, even if my friends laugh at me.

I believe it's OK-TAH-VA, and not OK-TAY-VA. It's possible that people might be thinking "OCTAVIA" and saying it that way.

I've heard neve as: Nah-vay, Nee-vay, Nee-vee, Nee-vay, Nah-vuh, Neh-vuh, Nee-vuh, Nay-vuh, nuh-vay and my overall favorite from a dunce at samash; Nee. Insising he met rupert himself from his multimillion dollar recrding session in nashville. Neve is french, the V is silent!

Needless to say, I walked out and reported him to the manager for incompetence after that and an inability to hook a pair of monitors up correctly.

This reminds me of the ongoing "peeko-farad" versus "pie-co-farad" controversy. (For the record, I'm a "peeko-farad" man ;)).

I've always pronouced UREI as "yur-ee" and Neve as "neev", but I don't know if these are "correct" or not. I haven't gotten any strange looks so far.

I use German pronounciation for Neumann and Behringer, although I hear people say "behrinjer" more often, incorrect as it is.

Langevin, I'm not sure about. My french-speaking girlfriend tells me it would be "long-vahn", but since it's an American company, I figured on "LANG-evin" or "lan-GEV-in." I'm pretty sure the G is hard, but I'm not sure where the emphasis is placed.

I'm yoo-ree too. Not that I ever have any need to say it though.

Thanks for the correct way to say Behringer NYD. I was a "jer" man but am now a "ger" man.

Someone told me it was Sannheiser not "senn" too. Is this true, anyone? I think I read that on HomeRec actually.
