Print out your PayPal transaction or e-mail the seller for a reciept. Or print out the ebay pages and photocopy the money order, etc.

Other than that, dunno.

1. Require the seller to issue a receipt with the purchase.

and/or

2. Keep a hard copy of your paypal transaction confirmation.

Also, use an accountant to do your taxes.

I just print out the whole paypal "account overview" page at the end of each month, and date it in big red marker at the top.
USE AN ACCOUNTANT!

Then I hide from the government in a cave under times square.

I hate paying taxes that fund this fucking idiot of a president and his evil henchman.

I wish I could specify what my tax money was intended to be used for.

Pay with a money order and write what it was for and who it went to on the receipt. I use a bookkeeper/CPA team who kick ass on the IRS. I write off most everything I do...

Any advice on finding a hip CPA? I need to find one ASAP, but have reservations.

I've been suggesting for years doing away with the secret ballot, so you can get a tax exemption if the candidate you voted for didn't get elected. Sounds fair, right?

I just finished assembling a proof of a CD that Si Kahn will be putting out through MoveOn.org as a free download of songs to rally people to get that clown out of there. Good stuff.

I don't know what tax bracket you're in, by my personal experience has steered my away from high-priced CPAs. I prepared my own taxes for years based on a return that had been professionally prepared in the mid-80s, but decided about 10 years ago to go to a CPA who advertised in the AFM newspaper here in LA as "The Musician's Advantage" or some such crap...he cost a bundle, and made a boneheaded mistake which triggered an IRS audit, then when I called him to defend me in the audit he demanded a huge retainer and refused to accept responsibility for his mistake.

I asked around, found a woman who prepares taxes for a number of musicians and at least one well-known recording engineer. She's not a CPA, loves doing battle with the IRS, and she neither skirts the law nor plays it overly safe. She got me out of that audit unscathed and then got a second one several years later thrown out completely...If you're in the Los Angeles area I highly recommend her, contact me offlist.

Forgot to mention, if you're gonna write off all that ebay gear that you buy, make sure you declare all that income you made from disposing of other stuff on ebay. You can't have it both ways...at least not if you get audited.

Yes! I refer to him as "idiot boy" when I speak of him...

Have you ever seen someone so out of touch with the people of the country?
