do snakes affect signal quality?
Would there be a difference in signal quality if I'm using a 50' snake as opposed to a 100' snake for recording? I'd probably be sending phantom power through the snake as well. It seems like shorter would be better, although the problems with long mic lines were probably worked out a long time ago...
Also, are there brands to avoid when 'snake shopping'?
thanks yall

not a xlr, but if its trs then yes, I believe you don't want over 20ft trs
don't worry we don't need to track, we'll fix it later!

Re: do snakes affect signal quality?
I could be wrong, but my instincts tell me that balanced line is balanced line and that TRS and xlr connectors don't have a "sound" or particular noise problems inherently. Now TS (or any unbalanced line)... thats a different story. Lots 'o noise potential there. Of course early manly gear and almost all Neotek gear is largely unbalanced and people still use that.
And don't run phantom on anything but XLR terminated snakes. TT and TRS connectors can short out the phantom voltage when insterted.

Agreed. The only cool thing about monster is their lifetime warranty._Sounds like the kind of bullshit that people like Monster Cable want everyone to believe.
I cringe everytime I go over to a friend's house and they try to impress the recording engineer with their Monstor rca cables.
Them: "It sounds way better than before!"
Me: "Really? You did an A-B test?"
Them: <silence>

Ha! Is anybody interested in buying my BBE Sonic Maximizer? It aligns the frequency-time-phase-ratios coming to your ears, which sounds exactly like pulling a blanket off your speakers._Sounds like the kind of bullshit that people like Monster Cable want everyone to believe.

Is the capacitance issue something you'll run encounter with cheaper snakes, i.e. ProCo, Rapco, Hosa, etc... ?thempt wrote:The sad thing is that it is certainly possible to hear a difference between some cables.

kewl least now I know, I wonder where i heard delay from, it was sittuation where I was running peoples amp in many seperate rooms so everyone could be in the same room and see eachother, we thought they could just get a longer guitar cable and somehow I don't member exactly it got shot down, and we ended up sacrificing some seperation, I dunno, anyways thanx

Re: do snakes affect signal quality?
i have this old no name snake, 100 ft, probably from the 70s... i've always been kind of weary to record with it. kinda afraid it's gonna have crazy noise and crap in it. hmm...
