Post by Gebo » Sun May 18, 2003 12:10 am

Anyone else go to this? Broadcast set was nothing short of amazing. Although I thought Electrlane were aweful... I saw some dude recorded the show, Id like to scope that out. If they are coming to your area do all you can do go... amazing.

Broadcast is hard to describe... Go to their website (you can find it via yahoo), they have sounds up there... Yea, their new ep isnt too good, but the songs they played off their album thats coming out in august we're awesome, a lot more like the last record. Actually, the songs they played off the new ep, live, were really good too...

The USA are incredible. I used to play their LP all the time when I used to DJ at WRUV Burlington. I wish I taped it. I have no idea if they have more than 1 LP; good luck finding it anywhere.

The United states of america is amazing!!! They only put out that one lp, you can order it on cd from amazon and stuff, edsel records (from europe I think) reissued it. There was a version of the cd columbia records reissued in like 1992, that had 2 bonus tracks on it. Someone said those were their best songs, but the edsel version is just the 10 original songs on the lp. Does anyone have the version with the bonus tracks, I would kill for a copy. Broadcast sounds a lot like USA, they actually mention it in a few interviews, that they are influenced by them quite a bit. The USA lp is one of my favorite sounding records of all time. I Think robert byrd did some solo stuff afterwords, but could never find anything to listen too, id like to check it out though...

Yes, the United States of America were great. Joe Byrd's (Robert Byrd is the senator, but they *are* related) followup, The Field Hippies (also originally released on Columbia), were also very good. His subsequent albums are basically "switched-on" versions of socialist/worker anthems performed by cheesy synthesizers, which makes them not-so-good IMHO (I personally think that the whole "switched-on" concept is the worst thing ever to happen to electronic music).

I remember reading something about the field hippies, Ill try harder to find something... I read somewhere that the singer of USA is a grade school music teacher or something, which is cool, seems like it would be a rad job. Robert Byrd and Joe Byrd are related? interesting family reunions.
