opinions on focusrite preamps

Post by sashacasa » Thu Oct 02, 2003 11:55 am

i'm thinking about getting a focusrite voicemaster twin track. anyone ever used one? they're about $600 new. 2 mic pre's w/ compressors and eq. right now i'm using an aphex tubessence 107 as well as the pre's on my a&h system 8 console. i just need some kind of upgrade but i'm not rich.

I'm using a Focusrite Penta... which I believe has the same pre as is used in the Voicemaster.
It's a decent enough unit for the price. The pre is nothing to write home about, though it's ok. I really don't think it'll be a huge upgrade from the Aphex. The compressor on the Penta is in my opinion useless.
I guess my advice would be to save up for something better, but if you have $600 to spend, go with an FMR Audio RNP and RNC.

These units sound really bright and harsh. I would get a Mackie 1604 VLZ...
