Re: poll: what do you do?
I'm a graphic designer. Beside that I'm building a home-but-professional-sounding studio in my cave. I'll record both my music and others' there
Re: poll: what do you do?
I can't break it down to percentages, but if I am not at work (graphic design for educational materials) I am either writing/recording, recording the band I am in, recording friends, skateboarding, fixing gear, or watching movies with Laura.

Re: poll: what do you do?
During the day, I work for an acoustical engineering consulting firm, specializing in transportation noise control. I work on environmental studies nationwide that address aviation/transit/highway noise issues, design noise walls, predict noise/vibration levels due to future transportation planning, attend public meetings etc.
I have a basic home studio set-up that I use to write songs and overdub noisy stuff.
Thus my life is a hypocrisy, simultaneously creating and destroying annoying noise.
I think I'll name my next band THD+N... ahh, maybe not.

I write/record, go to/play shows, read and scour for new-to-me music, watch movies and read occasionally, and attend high school as a senior on the side.

Re: poll: what do you do?
my day job is as a receptionist for a social service organization in Minneapolis, dealing with employment programs and refugee resettlement.
so I get to try to explain to people who speak 3 words of english that their case worker is out at lunch, and won't be back for an hour.
"no here?"
"not here. back in one hour."
"why no here?"
"he's at lunch. he'll be back in one hour."
"ohhh. (pause) no here?"
when I'm not doing that, I'm working out music with the new band, or doing some recording, or more likely playing around with dvd authoring and video capture.
all this, of course, worked around being with my charming wife.

By day: mild-mannered software tester.
By night: wild peanut butter partier.
Plus the usual: play, record, lust after gear, lust after new space in house for studio, drag gear from room to room looking for decent sounding space, etc.

Now we know who to go to with our sound insulation questions.jdsvolk wrote:During the day, I work for an acoustical engineering consulting firm, specializing in transportation noise control. Produce, Record and Mix records on a full time basis. Lately been doing alot of artist development for my own indie label. Trying to keep an ear out for new artists with a focus on college alternative.

On the side I have a dental floss plantation, and this year's crop sure looks promising.

Re: poll: what do you do?
In theory I'm a guitar tech, but given the fact that my former boss pretty much has the market cornered for repairs around here, I'm out of work.
Heurh!
