Yeah, always expensive for what is essentially a 'one setting' limiter/compressor!

I love ebay.

He also has a Neumann U47 for sale to go with it as well. No feedback as well?

So is this thing 'the' shit? Of all compressing time? Nothing compares?

Is it like when you run something into it, you say to yourself, "Oh, hell yes. What a bang for my buck. $33,000 is like getting it for free."
"I have always tried to present myself as the type of person who enjoys watching dudes fight other dudes with iron claws."

I've never (knowingly) heard one of these ole Fairchilds. At prices like that, I'm sure I never will.

In a couple of words, what do they sound like? Are they smooth or extreme? Used these days for silk or for wackiness?

Just curious.

these are awesome!! but the price is rediculous. we rented one for a record a long time ago (1991), and the engineer (jack joseph puig) ended up buying it for $14,000 dollars. he also bought the mellotron we rented for that record. it was the sh*t on drums and vocals though.

But do these shits sound that great? I mean if i compare my distressor for example with this stuff, is the difference in price justified by a RADICAL change in sound quality? (i'm not speaking of versatility, that's not what the fairchild is about obviously)

yeah. every once in a while i like to mail $33,500 to a random floridian with no feedback who i'll never see.

when i'm in that kind of mood, i'll sometimes vote for a non-english speaking bodybuilder who has been known to express admiration for hitler too.

sorry to throw that in, but i won't be able to sleep until the entire cast of "predator" has been in public office. carl "apollo creed" weathers for mass in '94!!!

the Fairchild sounds amazing. Great, amaziing compressor.

I would never spend 33,000 dollars on a piece of rack gear even if I had everything else.

Listen to Buffalo Springfield, "Bluebird," and "Mr. Soul." Stephen Stills and Neil Young have both stated in separate interviews over the years that the acoustic and electric guitars were heavily compressed with Fairchild compressors.

I used to think these were terrible-sounding recordings (playing many generations of vinyl and the original CD release through the years), but now that I have the remastered CDs, my tune's changed. The sound through my system is quite amazing.

Hell, I'm waiting for the UAD-1 version in November. I think I'll save $32,851 that way.

well to be fair, he may not be a native speaker, but he indeed does speak english. i've heard it... in that sweet accent! GET DOWWWN!

*ahem* sorry to have taken this off-topic. i wouldn't trust that dude with no feedback though... at that amount. that's insane. reminds me of those cd players that cost like $5k... it's like, i don't care how good it is... what's the point?

It's a load of fucking bollocks, to be fair. 33G. I'd want it to shag me and run me to the shops and back for half that.
