Affordable, Portable, Inexpensive, Digital Piano?!?!?!

Post by ceeelow » Fri Oct 17, 2003 10:12 am

Hey All!

Ok, So just as the subject line states I'm looking for a lightweight, portable, REAL sounding digital piano that's inexpensive and has weighted keys (important) I'll even take used, old models that no one wants......so if you have one let me know. Otherwise if you could pass on some makes and models that would help to.....

Thanks....

The Yamaha P90 isn't too bad. It's about as compact as you can hope for an 88 key weighted keyboard. Not sure how much it costs. Stay away from the "Electric Piano" sounds though.
HEY! Who forgot they bag?

I'll second this...

and add that I have run across some surprisingly inexpensive, yet good midi modules. Try the EMU Proformance ($60-ish) and Kurzweil Micro Piano ($150-ish), used. Both are full of piano sounds, with subtle variations. I like the Proformance cause you plug it in, run through the fifteen sounds it's got, and if one works, it works. If it doesn't, move onto something else.

You may have more success getting a cheap weighted keyboard and a separate midi module- at least pricewise.

The best value is definitely the Kurzweil sp88x to me; I love mine. They sell for about 800 bucks and sound and play fantastic. It's definitely a one-trick pony, though. Strictly acoustic piano.
