What is the best Mic to match to my Avalon 737 SP?
I play and record bass, i have a 1969 Ampeg Portaflex B-15, from my Avalon in it go to a layla 20bit rackmount.
I will mostly using this mic for bass recording, but would like it to work for other applcations.
I have been looking at a Neumann TML 193 or a AT 4050.
I want to keep it under a $1000.
Any suggestions?

I have a 737 . Just added a MXL tube mic. $219 at Shreve Audio. I like it a lot. Sounds more fat and wooly and round on my voice.

The D12e works awesome on this setup, but it won't work as well on other applications. The Soundelux ifet7 would work for you, but that's well over a grand, so I guess I'd go with Meriphew's U195 suggestion.dandandan wrote:What is the best Mic to match to my Avalon 737 SP?

Re: Best Mic for a Avalon 737 SP
I just recorded a B15 with an avalon.
On a whim, I put up the BLUE "mouse" (the black one with the transformer!!!!!!)
And IT ROCKED SO HARD I COULDNT BELIEVE IT.
Like a cross between COP SHOOT COP, yes, and something fatter, like a laswellian dub thing.
All that off one mic. I was truly amazed. Like a fet 47 with a "pickier" top end.
I had owned the mouse for some time and never tried it on bass. WOW diod it like the B15/avalon combonation.

I know it's a little bit out of your desired price range, but I also just did a record using a Blue Mouse on the bass (through focusrite pres) and it sounds amazing. Huge and warm. Possibly the best bass sound I've ever gotten. Plus, it's another mic to use for vocals (you never can tell what's gonna work...)

Another vote for the U195. A very well made mic (that sounds great too).
