A Question on older gear

Post by newguy12 » Sun Nov 02, 2003 5:53 pm

I was just wondering why on some old school gear (such as older altec mic pres) often times you see the input transformers on the outside of the the unit? Is there any reason behind this, or just a design statement of the times? Thanks in advance.

Because the transformer was an optional accessory. The unit could be used with no input transformer (with a high-impedance mic) or with other accessories--such as RIAA equalization networks for use with phono catridges--plugged in.
