Headphone Question

Post by SchemeTeam » Mon Nov 17, 2003 1:15 pm

Hey Folks,

I'm in the market for some new cans. They'll be used for mixing and monitoring. I'd like to spend around $100.

I've heard good things about the AK-240s headphones...

So, any suggestions? If there's a similar thread out there, plz let me know.

Thanks,
Dale

yo-

i use 240M's...they have a new version out which i think premit them to get louder than the 'originals.'

i prefer them to the others i've used - espeically the sony MD jobs which have a lot of high end on em...but some folks dig those.

if it's just for you - go to a store and try em out.

if it's for a studio - i suggest getting more than one type for the:

"these headphones suck"
"here, try these"
"ahhh yeah much much better... jesus those other one's sucked"

of course you handed them the optimus specials but to each his her own...

oh and some closed ear jobs are better for vocals as their leakage is less of an issue.

in paper hell,
MIke

for mixing i love my grado sr60's. they aren't worth shit for tracking with but if your in a quiet control/bed room mixing or monitoring thier great. I also like the Sennheiser HD 280, the bass on them seems "loose". thats the only way i can think to describe it. I use these when I track a band in the same room as me, they are my control room.

Check out www.headphone.com for a nice little overview on headphones / amps. The AKG K240M is the "classic" and they came out with another version (K240S) with a lower impedence to make it easier to drive. The Sony MDR series is great, especially the 7506 and I also like the AKG 501. Your best bet, like the guy said above, is to try them out and find what you like best... but it's always good to start with the classic stand-bys.

Hi. Don't know if this would be up your alley but this is a recent price reduction.
