I love the smell of tape. We used Quantegy I believe. Didn't matter. As long as I had a 24 track around me, I was a happy camper. Pop that sucker in rewind and smell the goodness. :)

Gentlemen!, you all need to see a doctor fast, i tried to.. honestly!, but it played havoc on my sinuses..

I think bobbydj's idea of the fragrance might be a good idea for all you tape sniffing oddities out there!. :D

And by the way, DOES anyone here have the link to the Tapeop Mitch Easter interview, hint hint, please!!

How come nobody mentioned old Scotch (3M) 206 and especially 226? That stuff has the most warmy/chemical smell. Fantastic.

Oh no!!, if were going to be comparing the odouros analogus, i would have to say that the Ampex 456 would be more of an expensive cologne, while the 3m is really the" Brut" of analogue tape....oh no!!, what have you guys done to me...HELP!

yeah, tape smells good.

but it can not compete with the smell of the diaghphram on a good old 67. i have a compulsion/superstition to smell it whenever i take it out of the box. and i compound this by walking around the studio and DEMANDING that everyone else waft in the pleaseant aroma of 40 years of spit and bad breath.

solder also smells good.

Fuck yes.

It's a kissing cousin to the smell of soft vinyl sheeting (a.k.a. "pleather") which I will forever associate with the smell of the brand-new "capes/robes" with arm-holes that Darth Vader, Obi-Wan and those guys had on the first Star Wars figures when I pulled 'em out of the plastic bubble and hang card circa 1978. I was seven...it was good. I wish my toys were still so inexpoensive.
