An essay about historical stuff. I used a bic round stic for close writing. I put it down on wide ruled spiral bound paper. Everything was really warm, and fat, and punchy.

My band practiced, and I record every practice. I went through the recording and there was nothing worth saving, but I am not going get rid of it. Pack rat mentality. (at about $1 per gigabyte, how can I?)
I also started working on some art for an EP we are going to get made.
Right now I am sitting on the couch with my girlfriend who is knitting and my dog who is sleeping, watching ER.

Re: What Did You...12-07-03
Marathon band practice (the first in a long while). We tried out a few vocal harmony ideas that we came up with during overdubs live for the first time.
Met with our "A&R swine" about publicity for our upcoming CD release. $3000 for a publicist? Damn. I am clearly in the wrong line of work.
Wrote our guitar player a check for the 2nd of the two 1176s we went halfsies on a few months ago. Turns out he was just letting it sit there, so I offered to buy it back. Now I am broke as shit but I have two 1176s.
Went home. Stared at my gear which is badly in need of organization. After playing drums for nearly three hours I couldn't bring myself to do it. Played guitar for a little bit, but nothing too inspiring came of it.
Came over to my girlfriend's. Tried to watch TV, but it was just awful so I put on Idaho's "Levitate", heated up some coffee, and cozied up to the 'puter.

Re: What Did You...12-07-03
Finished building a solid state phono preamp. My tube amplifier doesn't have a phono input, and I didn't want to spend $500 on a decent phono pre, so I built one. I'm currently listening to Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life LP. I'm thinking my preamp sounds detailed, but a little grainy and sibilant, and I hope the OPA2604 I used will settle in and sound a little better.
I'm thinking I should've built a tube phono preamp instead.

I cooked dinner for some good friends and had some quality down time! Roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, salad, apple pie...

I built two of fourteen 8-channel snakes I need for a week from Wednesday. I'm beginning to regret ever hearing music in the first place.

Re: What Did You...12-07-03
Yesterday we finalized the deal for space for my wife's new clinic. Tonight we went to dinner to celebrate - she just took her NM state licensing test this morning to become a Doctor of Oriental Medicine. We still have to wait three weeks for the official word, but there's no doubt that she passed with flying colors!
I'll have to put in a couple more years at the day gig while she builds her clientele, then I get to work on the studio full-time. YAY!

Re: What Did You...12-07-03
Tracked a guitar part for a song. '62 Fender Tele Custom reissue > 8 fx pedals > Bad Cat Mini Cat amp (little 5 watter) that was cranked. Mic'd with a Blue Baby Bottle, Shure 57, and a Placid Copperphone (all at varying distances) > GT Vipre and API pres. It was one of those roaring, feeding back, on the verge of being out of control type of guitar parts.
