i've used the 219 as a bass drum mic about 2-3ft off the bass drum. it had a very good sound. pay attention to the bottom end though. sometimes it seemed a tad bit thin to me

Sure....
Two ways which have worked for me:
1) Six inches off the ground, three feet in front of the kick
2) Laying on a carpet about 1.5 to 2 feet in front of the kick
Both work to capture the rumbly aspect of the kick.

Yeah, I was thinking about the 219 on the snare, too. Seemed like it might be a decent alternative to the 57, but who knows...

hell yes. I use my 319 about 8-10 inches in front of the front head, the capsule is aimed mostly at the center - only thing different I do is use the built in pad switch on the mic. it sounds a whole lot better, more open/natural than the crappy AT mic I was shoving right up against the inner head where the beater strikes.

Thanks for the info...I'll be sure to give it a try...
