speaking of MK319...just used one last night on vocals through Neotek Elite(flat EQ)...sounded so good I didn't even bother trying any "better" alternatives.
Lot of presence and warmth...Is there a better mic for the price?

I'll try your floor tom idea next time I'm doing drums.

I love this mic. For the price, you can't beat it. Very usable. Its good on my voice, and I really, really like it acoustic guitars and drums (never tried it on the toms, but cool as an overhead, and I dug it on the outside of the kick, too). You'd be silly not to get two for that price.
I am wangtacular.

i picked up a whole bunch of Oktavas recently as Guitar center was pretty much giving them away. i love the 319, 219 and the 012....i have found myself passing up more expensive "classic" mics for these...just don't tell to many people, they'll get popular and expensive!

its great on floor tom, but make sure you have the mic well shock mounted. the body rings something awful when it gets vibrations...

is anyone aware of how a poor canadian fellow could go about taking advantage of this deal? from what i've found, guitar center doesn't sell the octavas online. any help is certainly appreciated.

I spoke with the guy at the Cinci Guitar Center. He said that they were expecting a shipment to come next week, and they had a waiting list of 5 people for the mics.

He said the sale would last until the end of January. I would imagine that there is a "while supplies last" stipulation. He thought they would get about 60 mics.

The guy was helpful, his name is Eric, the store's number is (513) 671-4555.

If you call you could get on the list.

I used one on bass cab along with an M88. When we finally went to mix we only used the 319. Really nice and smooth sounding.

To the Canuck-
Musician's Friend is the mail order and more web-based "branch" of GC, so they may have a similar deal or if you can call and talk to someone, you may be able to get them to give you the same deal.

Cheers!
