Touring the west coast

Post by ludwig_van » Sat Jul 07, 2007 11:55 am

My east coast tour is ending. That means it's time to start booking the west coast tour. Please suggest cities and venues for a touring indie rock band to hit in NV, CA, OR, WA, and AZ.

I'm thinking we'll hit the road in late September or early October. The tentative plan is to begin in Las Vegas, head to the CA coast, go north up to Seattle, then do something in eastern WA and work our way back down through northern CA, NV, possibly hit AZ, and then end up back in Vegas.

We're looking for small to medium sized indie rock clubs. We'd like to avoid really tiny places, no-name bars, places not known for music, and anywhere we aren't likely to find a receptive audience and make money - but we'd also like to keep travel distances in the 300 miles or less range.

Of specific interest - places between LA and San Francisco? Places in northern CA? Places in eastern OR and WA? Anywhere in NV besides Las Vegas?

Thanks!

Between LA and San Francisco is Howie and Sons Pizza in Visalia in the valley. They have shows every Friday, I think.

Looks like LA is scheduled, but Spaceland in Silverlake would have been a good one.

Yeah, I contacted them, but didn't hear back.

I could use some recommendations for Fresno, CA, Eugene, OR, Bend, OR, and Walla Walla, WA, if anybody knows any venues.

Someday Lounge and Doug Fir Lounge in Portland were both really fun to play on tour. WOW Hall in Eugene, OR is a very cool space. Ashland in OR is a pretty cool small college town that might make a decent stop to schedule also. In Seattle WA Neumos was also a blast to play on tour. Solar Culture in Tucson is a really cool place.

Avoid Sacramento CA! - even though on a map it might make a tempting looking stop - it's a Red city in a Blue state.

Thanks for the ideas. Solar Culture looks really cool, I'm surprised I didn't hear about it sooner. I hope something comes together in Tucson.

Chico

Post by ryan.c.ya » Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:19 pm

Chico CA is a great place with lots of bands, music fans and college venues. Try La Salle or Off Limits. Reno has a few good venues as well: The Zephyr, Satellite, the Green Room. Good luck on the tour.

Thanks for the suggestions. We got the Red White and Brew Pub in Redding, and we may be doing the Frog and Peach Pub in SLO. It's going slowly though. What a pain.

Check It Out

Post by steveund » Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:04 pm

Hey

Bakersfield is about 2 to 3 hours away from LA. Look up Jerry's Pizza, it's a pretty hot spot here in Bakersfield for concerts, its in downlown of bakersfield. I beleive that the concert hall is underground. So its really pumping. Depending on your style of music, if your country and looking to get in a good spot you can always try "Buck Owens Crystal Palace" here in Bakersfield too.

Thanks Steve. If anybody has suggestions for Olympia or Tacoma, WA, that'd be great.

Hey,
Try the Black Sheep if you wanna play Ashland.
It's a pub.
Jason Webley plays there occasionally.
