Looks like you can either have your own GS1 membership (which costs $$, right?) or you get one from a company already with a GS1.

Does it make sense to get a GS1? I don't intend on putting out more than a handful of CD's in the next few years myself.

anyone hooking up UPC codes on the cheap who have a GS1 account? Is that unethical?

Save me from UPC confusion. We need to get them for a hand-made CD release. many thanks

tunecore will give you one for free as part of their services, as will many cd manufacturers.

They give you just the #, you can get a UPC image here:
