October 2015 MSP Audio Geeks meetup

Post by audiochick » Wed Oct 07, 2015 8:46 am

October?s MSP Audio Geeks meetup is Wednesday, October 21st from 7-9pm. Davide Raso and Owen Sartori of F5 Soundhouse will be our hosts. This month special guest Kyle Frenette, co-founder of Middle West Management, will be joining us to talk about the management side of the music business.

From the F5 website: ?F5 is a boutique recording facility in the heart of the Minneapolis music scene. It incorporates the best in analog gear with modern recording and editing technology for a great-sounding, well-rounded product. We have, in total, four studios: two control rooms (studios A and B), a vocal room, a live room, a midi/editing suite (studio C), and a practice/performance room (Studio D).

From the Middle West website: ?Middle West is an artist management firm founded on the acute quiet of Midwestern work ethic. Independently strong since 2010, Middle West is dedicated to fostering good music and the musicians who make it in the most professional and diverse of ways within the ever-changing landscape of its industry. With offices in Minneapolis, MN, Brooklyn, NY, and Durham, NC, Middle West also offers label and business management services to its artists.

Co-founded by Kyle Frenette on the strength and experience of Bon Iver, Middle West began as just an idea on how to structure a new type of artist management firm. It has since grown into an evolving experiment that?s mission is to cultivate the next generation of artist managers. Middle West strives to establish a collaborative and professional environment for its managers to flourish, perfect their skills and provide the absolute best services they can for their artists. This is accomplished by way of a shared brain trust between all managers and personnel as well as Middle West?s atypical linear business model in which all members of the greater team are encouraged to contribute, learn and grow alongside each other and as a whole within the firm.?

April 2016 MSP Audio Geeks meetup - Saturday 4/23

Post by audiochick » Mon Apr 04, 2016 8:07 pm

April's meetup is Saturday, April 23rd from 3-6pm at GLITCH. This month we will be attending the Minneapolis Summit of Sound: Video Game Edition, a special event put on by fellow audio geek Rachel Mogck. Rachel has put together a great afternoon that will include panels, exhibits, demos, and more. Rachel is producing this event as part of her senior project for her B.S. in Music Industry at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Minneapolis Summit of Sound: Video Game Edition, hosted at GlitchHQ, will be a fusion of audio and video games with events so everyone, regardless of primary interest, will be able to have an engaging experience. The main events will be a series of Q&A panels: one covering general video game development and one covering sound design for video games. There will also be game demos and other happenings throughout the venue to keep this an interactive experience and encourage growth in both the audio and video game communities.

From the GLTICH website: "GLITCH promotes the exploration of digital games as a culture, career, and creative practice. We?re a nonprofit that works to educate, inspire, and equip emerging makers with the tools for success in the digital game and simulation fields.

Our organization supports emerging creators, makers, thinkers, and doers of new work in digital games whose developing voices reveal significant potential and:
  • who are not recognized as established by other creators, curators, producers, and critics.
  • who take risks and embrace challenges in their approach to creation, production, & promotion.
The event is free, but there is a $5 suggested donation. Feel free to invite your friends for a fun afternoon of audio geekery!

Stay tuned for more details about the afternoon's happenings. If you would like more information about the event, please contact Rachel Mogck at mplssummitofsound at gmail dot com

Post by audiochick » Fri Jul 08, 2016 3:34 pm

July's MSP Audio Geeks meetup is on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 from 6-9pm at The Pearl Recording Studio, hosted by founder, engineer, and producer Zachary Hollander. We'll be recording simultaneously to analog tape and a DAW and then comparing the two. Zach will also share some tips & tricks for getting great sounds.

From the website:
"The Pearl Recording Studio was founded by brothers Zachary and Noah Hollander in the spring of 2010. Our main objective at The Pearl is to provide professional recordings with the highest quality of sound possible. We strive for excellence in everything we do and pay close attention to every detail, cutting corners on nothing. Our goal is to see every artist satisfied with a project they are proud of.

Zachary Hollander's love for recording started at the age of sixteen when he won two microphones in a local music competition. In 2002 he opened his first recording studio, Silver Fox Records, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After local success in recording regional projects he moved to Orlando, Florida to further his recording education at Full Sail University. After receivng his degree in Recording Arts he started his internship at the legendary Pachyderm Recording Studio in Cannon Falls, MN. After becoming a staff engineer at Pachyderm, Zachary worked on countless recordings from different genres. Most recently Green River has expanded to incorporate a green screen for video production.
