Looking for a roomie at PotLuckCon

Post by blackmac » Tue May 27, 2008 8:01 pm

Hi everyone, subject says it all. One again -my local recording buddy, Matt Truman, can't make it (shocker!)

Having attended in 2006 & 2007 I can truly state that there is no 'cooler' gathering of audio centric 'lifers' (okay AES is close) then what was formerly known as the TapeOp Conference.

Pot Luck Audio Conferences Details

If you're considering going, Do It! You'll never regret it :) Seriously, last year George Massenburg took 15 minutes of his day to personally explain the AIT Tape back-up system they use at Blackbird in Nashville to me. I could go on...but anyway:

If you're going & are currently 'homeless' please send an email to walter_mckeever AT owens DOT edu if you'd like to go 'half-sies.' I have a reservation at the 'PotLuck' Sheraton (where everything is happening of course) from June 5th through Monday the 9th (checkout -- to be able to attend the 'rock & bowl' wrap party) The conference hotel room 'block rate' has now expired, was May 15th, btw.

Four nights. Anyone who's homeless fire off an email. The 'group rate' is $109 a night & with taxes appears to be about $125 a night, so you're looking at $250. Would consider doing 'a three way split' if there are 'homeless traveling companions.' The Reservation is for 2 guests with 2 king beds overlooking the French Quarter.

Worth mentioning: I'm a laid back guy who will mainly be in the room only for shut-eye & hygiene. I attended TapeOpCon 2006 & 2007 so some of you know me. You can 'cyber stalk me (complete with a cheesy 'day for night shot' ) at Mac McKeever Wiki page Or read through my old posts helping folks out over on the DUC, user blackmacdaddy

Last year this lack of planning on my part worked out great with Mike Wells (from Mike Wells Mastering San Fran) and Kerry Haps from the Chicago EARS organization & myself sharing a room in Tucson in 2007. We had a great time & 'got off cheap.'

Homeless audio brethren, avoid 'couch surfing' all weekend & email me for 'Sheraton sanctuary.'

Best ;)

Walt

Hey Hey!

It's true. It worked out nice last year. Getting to split the costs of the room was a nice assist and when we crossed paths between sessions or at the evening shows it was always a good time.

The only thing stopping me from fully recommending Blackmac with a "If you like your cajun cookin' blackened, maybe you'll like your roommate that way too?" is the fact that I'm on that same fence I was on last year at this time, seriously considering making the trip.

What a conundrum! Tap into my gearlust budget to go to the Con where that very same lust will only be fed? Aye yai yai...

Hello ... did you find anyone yet? I am seriously considering driving down next weekend! Never been, would love to check it out!
I will see you there, or I will see you at another time.

Hey Hey!

I'll take Sunday night if it's still available... If not, I'm lookin' for a couch or a clean floor. :)

Hi Harley, Kerry, Rob and everybody,

Still looking  for a Roomie for the nights of 5th - 8th. My potential
roomie got a local hook up. But it's much sweeter to be at the
conference hotel. No worries! The door is open!

Want in? Email me at walter_mckeever AT owens.edu

With city tax & stuff it's $225 each for the four nights of luxury at the
French Quarter Sheraton.

Thanks everyone for the kind words

Best!

Rock 'n' Roll! 8)

See ya'll soon!

Hey Hey!

Blackmac really was a good roommate.

You know... In general, there's not a lot of talk on TOMB about PotLuckCon... Are the natives restless, but elsewhere?

Well,

Still no takers! I'm shocked. I guess I'll be in the lobby with a
sandwich board on my back! I can AFFORD the luxury, but
I'd really rather be in on a share. I'll be there tomorrow (Thursday) night.

Seriously though, I enjoy adventure like this, and I'm putting the word out that if
you run into anyone wishing that had a room, point 'em this way on the TOMB
& my subsequent cell phone digits: 419-902-5676

Really, I think Kerry's right, doesn't seem to be a lot of Pot Lucker's posting here. I checked the Pot Luck myspace & it's equally dead.

Fletcher over on PSW has a small thread rolling. I hope the turnout's in decent
shape. Anyway, thanks to all reading & I'm looking forward to the happenin'!

Best,
Blackmac
