There's no requirement to record demos for FAWM, but the amount of feedback you receive if you do is remarkable, supportive, and constructive. A good number of FAWMers also simultaneously participate in RPM.

Personally, I challenge myself to write and record my FAWM songs before sleeping. It's a great arbitrary deadline for me. I've managed to finish 14 or more the last two years and remain married.
