Helping my friend find a Label in the Bay Area...

Post by greatmagnet » Wed May 20, 2009 11:56 am

Hey Folks All,

Haven't posted in a loooong while. Nice to be back.

Anyhow, I have a very, VERY talented songwriter friend and client whom has been working with me on his second album over the past year and it's coming out great. His first album (which I also recorded) was picked up by a local indie label...who may or may not be his prom date for album number two.

I live up in the hinterlands of Santa Rosa (one hour north of SF) so I don't exactly have my ear to the ground on who's out there label-wise right now. It seems like every year at the TapeOp conference (deceased) I meet folks who run local labels but I always manage to lose their biz cards.

Anyhow, he may have to shop around and I thought the trusty T.O. board would be a good place to stop in and ask around for some suggestions on whom to approach in case it comes to that. The music I would describe very much in the vein of classic 70's A.M. gold...Todd Rundgren et-al. Pop song sensibilities above all else, lots of Alpert-esque flugels and trumpets. With the occasional Motown twist or other 60's goodness thrown in.

He doesn't ask much: mostly we're just looking for someone to help cover costs for mastering and CD duplication, has good legitimate online distribution channels, and perhaps help promote what live performances he gets together on a local level.

HOLLA!

Adam
