Recording studios in Brooklyn (Bushwick area or closeby)?

Regional activities, relevant news, job openings, studio searches, local beer nights (not a forum to plug the new album you just worked on)

Recording studios in Brooklyn (Bushwick area or closeby)?

Post by wejamecono » Sat Jun 20, 2009 10:15 pm

Any recommendations or even just names of good or not so good Brooklyn studios (analog preferably, but throw them out there) - preferably reasonably priced ones? I would especially be interested to hear if there are any near the BUSHWICK area. Thanks!

http://www.futureshockstudio.com/ (greenpoint)

http://www.thefortbrooklyn.com/ (bushwick)

http://www.cleanandhumble.com/ (sunset park)

There's a bunch of Brooklyn guys on here who may chime in as well, I imagine.

Park Slope might be close to Bushwick relative to Ossining, or the moon, but if you've ever had to go from one to the other, either driving or by public transport, I don't think you'd call it close. I'm sure that's a great studio, though.

If it's a small project, I'd be up for doing it in the Ubertarium, for cheap. I don't have the space to do a full band, but if it's something smaller, that could work. I'm in Ridgewood, right next door to Bushwick (DeKalb stop on the L). I'm especially up for it if it's something really creative and experimental, but a singer/songwriter thing would be fine, or pretty much anything not requiring a drum kit.

Carousel

If it's vintage keyboard oriented, and you don't need to record a drum set, feel free to contact me about Carousel, in Greenpoint. There's a nice Steinway upright, Baldwin Harpsichord, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Clavinet, Mellotron, Moogs, ARPs, etc.

Close to or in Bushwick?

Check out some of the usual suspects on this board: John and Aaron over at the Bunker, Marc at Strange Weather, Joel and Tony at Studio G, Dan at Monterland.

All great folks, and most of the ones on this list have stellar analog machines.

We moved recently.
We are on South 5th now by the bridge.
We've got analog stuff and more.
I really need a new website but I did put some newer pics on the old one and I updated our Gear List

The bunker is great, Cowboy tech. services is great.

Like, truly great.

There are places where you can record, and then there are places that make you feel like you are in the right place, with the right people, and your name gets out into the world because the people involved all circulate in the music world and the intangible stuff like that just adds up to a better experience than just recording at some room with a microphone in it....

Some places just have the vibe.....

thanks for for mention, justin! (we gotta hang... haven't seen you in a MINUTE!)

we have a great Studer A80mkIII 24tk, Studer A810 2tk, and Joel's old infamous custom Auditronics console, and a pretty fresh mic locker. Drop me a line and come check the spot out. we're on the same block as the JMZ Hewes stop, so easy to get to from Bushwick.

If you're looking for vintage keyboard stuff though Joe's place is practically a museum.

I think it's hilarious that all of us who reply to these postings are friends. Shouldn't we be mud wrestling or something? God damnit I love this town.

The Bunker gets my vote for nice to-tape sounds and cool cats.
