jeepers creepers, man... I'm buying that album the day it's released. I'm a HUGE fan of pretty much everyone involved and judging by the clips - the collaboration worked.

Any good anecdotes from the sessions? Too soon?

I just got out of the drunk tank, and I really wish I had this album with me while I was there. True story, I'm very angry about it.

Okay:

Beta 52 as the bottom snare mic RULES.
M88 as a MONO overhead was awesome.
recording to make it sound screwy on purpose = fun.
Having Tchad blake mix a few for us = fun.

anything else?
;)

welcome back joel! seems like you've been away from these parts lately..

(must be working :)

the drum sounds are wicked on those clips. i am not really a big hiphop guy but i really want to check this one out.

is there a lot of room mic stuff goin on or just a few well placed close mics with some phat old school compression?

the bass sounds are great too. di's? amp's?

and last but not least... did tracks go to/through the tape machine or just to ptools?

There are some room mic type things happening. Not too far away though.
the overhead (in mono) had enough room in it usually. sometimes with a bit of RCA 77 from across the room, and a bit of bova ball omni over the shoulder type position.
certainly some compression was used. mostly just fader position that is giving the sound. really not much of anything going on processing wise, as this porject is more about the raw sounds (on the way in, anyway). the song "hoochie coo" with mos on it in the video is just my rough mix from the day we finished it. Tchad blake is remixing that one for us, and a few others. He is doing it at real world.

Yes, Mos did his ad lib tracks into a handheld 57. I did the main track on a 47 though.
the ad libs sound great on that 57.

I tried to use the "wrong" mic for everything on this project, and it really paid off with unique sounds.

The bass AND the guitar were simply recorded through a 12" supro combo amp I have. SM7 on the center of the speaker, right up on the grill.
I love bass through that kind of thing if it is appropriate to the form.
being one of the producers means I can make really stupid decisions about what to use and justify it with some bullshit historical precedent... ;)

Wowee! That looks like a frickin' great album.

Many more questions forthcoming once we get to hear the damn thing.
