DA-38 transfer to digital near Portland, OR?

Post by j.graham » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:02 pm

howdy,

i've a couple 10 year old tapes that were recorded with two Tascam DA-38's. I believe it's 16track, about 45 minutes work of music and am looking to get it in digital form. Simple WAV would work for me (i'm using Logic if that matters).

The studio it was done at sold off their machines years ago, and all my calls to the places i know of have yielded absolutely zero results.

Thanks for any help..

The DA-38 was a lower-end version of the once-common DA-88 (Tascam's 8-track digital recorder), used primarily in the broadcast industry. The tapes from a DA-38 are fully compatible with the DA-88's (IIRC).

I'm not surprised you're having no luck finding leads in the recording world, as the DA-38s never made too much of a dent in the ADAT juggernaut for music studios, but if you call some broadcast media facilities I bet someone can point you in the right direction.
