I had just been talking to mark about possibly mixing some of his new record.
We were marveling at the fact that we would possibly be working together again 10 years later to the DAY from when we first worked together on "its a wonderful life."
I was an engineer on that record, along with Mark himself, and Dave Fridmann.
Mark was an absolutely beautiful person, and this is a true loss for the recording community, the music business, and the world at large.

This hit me hard this morning.

I'm at a loss. Im in shock... Such a great musician and genuine guy... I owe so much to him in terms of my music influence, geez even his guzzi knowledge. He was my hero. I pray his family/friends will be comforted. What a sad day for music, and true gentlemen. He will be sorely missed. God bless him and his family.

First Vic Chessnut, and now this news... it so heartbreaking to lose someone to suicide. Especially hard and poignant when they are a musician or artist whose work was touched by that same sadness, beautifully expressed.

I wish something could be done, anything, to prevent the way this so often seems to conclude. And I feel guilty for enjoying the art they created. But, as I remind myself, it's not like they had a choice. So much is still not understood about suicide, but I feel certain it's not something they get to pick. We're lucky to have had them, and their music.

"It's a Wonderful Life" is one of my favorite albums of all time. Like a lot of people here I guess, it touched me deep inside my heart, moved me like I leaf in a storm, and had an impact on my creation.

And I don't mean the other Sparklehorse stuff isn't brilliant. I love the Lo-fi approach of Vivadixie... I can listen to "Cow" for hours and hours...

seeing sparklehorse live on the "goodmorning spider" tour was a revelation. i was blown away - so much interplay and switching between instruments - organic and samplers - multi-instrumentalists playing great songs. AMAZING.

he will be missed.

indeed. very sad. I remember listening to "It's a Wonderful Life" during a period of my life where I was feeling pretty depressed and uncreative and getting a sense of "this guy gets it." He was a creative guy and I think his recordings are a proud legacy....it's too bad it had to end so soon.
