We really should be claiming our profiles on this:

http://www.albumcredits.com/

Because when they get to 2000 profiles, we will finally be able to clean up the entries.
That will be a huge improvement over the AMG listed basic profile happening now.

See you there!

What does it mean to claim your profile? I've got a listing on there. What responsibilities am I taking on if I claim the profile?

tried to claim my profile a while ago, never received a confirmation email but it now says the profile is verified... i have emailed them to ask what's up. there is someone else with the same name who has a few credits, the majority are mine though.

seems like a great idea if they can make it work, given the issues with allmusic.

The whole idea is that it is a starting point, a public beta, based on the AMG. THEN, when they reach 2000 "claimed" profiles, it will go full on and if you want to pay a nominal fee you can then have a better listing because yuo can edit and change stuff and actually CLEAN IT UP yourself!!! which is worth it to me. the AMG is so f'd up because of "same name's" as above, or just plain wrong listings.
This one has the potential to really be great.

If you read the mission statement it explains the whole thing.. they say:

AlbumCredits.com (BETA - CURRENT VERSION)
AlbumCredits.com automatically generates a Basic Profile (including a discography) for everyone with a performance or production credit in the AMG database.

During our Beta release, we encourage everyone to register by claiming their profile. It?s free (no credit card required) and the Basic Profile will remain free. With a Basic Profile you can upload a photo and bio and enter contact information.

AlbumCredits.com (VERSION 1.0)
AlbumCredits.com 1.0 (set to release once we reach 2000 claimed profiles) will offer an Enhanced Profile option that registered users can subscribe to for a small monthly fee. Enhanced Profile subscribers will be able to:

Add themselves to projects they worked on but did not receive credit for.
Correct mistakes in their credits.
Add releases not included in the AMG database.
Consolidate multiple profiles.
Create a direct link to their profile with a custom URL.
Suppress duplicates that can clutter their discography, such as ?clean? or ?international? releases.
Highlight select titles, current projects and breakthrough projects.

I think it is cool. It will be better than AMG once everyone gets on board. thats why I am trying to get people to claim their profiles!! That doesnt mean anything, it just means you say you are YOU and that you know that listing exists. you can add a photo and some contact info if you want, but you dont HAVE to do anything.

I'm so glad you pointed this out; I've never liked the credit reporting on AMG and I might finally have a chance to straighten some of it out. Thanks, Joel!

I like your pic on there Joel. You look like a friendly hipster with a huge rack.

That site is really cool, it's the first web site I've seen in a while where you just want to click on shit for a while and see where it takes you... and it's not disappointing when you get there. Very deep info there, would be cool to know it was fairly accurate.

Thanks for bringing this up. I just visited and claimed my profile, though I need to figure out how to clarify the credits by other people that share my name.

Joel, do you know the people that are running this? I'm a little wary of entering my email and a password (I usually use the same password for everything) into a page which doesn't have any ssl protection, but would feel better if you actually knew the folks behind this.

Also, for some reason when I clicked on this link at work yesterday, it came up as blocked. The reason they gave me was that it was a pornography site. Weird.

Clearly the "porn" status was due to my "friendly hipster" photo. :kotzen:

Also, it is the owner of Sterling... you know, the mastering place here in NYC that is doing this album credits thing. thats what got me interested in the first place. Its not just some random ex-porn site HTML jockey... its an actual person with actual ties to the music business and a vested interest in having things be credited priperly in this day and age of non-album-art... itunes REALLY should simply have this information available. But they dont put it anywhere, or at least anywhere that people get that info in the metadata automatically, which they should! why cant I do a "get info" on a track in itunes and see who recorded it? no reason....
anyway until that happens, I hope that we can get this site corrected and rolling.

Yeah, I haven't gotten a return email, either. I feel better about it if it's the folks from Sterling putting this together, as they tend not to do stuff half-assed. It's kind of like AMG for me if they say that they're gonna send you a confirmation email "in a few momments" and then don't. That's a big turn-off for me. I understand that they're still getting it worked-out, though.

Chris,

Are you sure your junk filters didn't snag the email?

I always check my junk filters. No reply from them. I can try it again, I suppose. I just lose patience with that kind of thing. Like, "Come on man, just make your shit work," you know?

If I have the same kind of problems with them as I do with AMG right now(ie-- ZERO reliability), then what's the point? I just can't take any of that stuff seriously.

I will give them another shot, though. I'd LOVE to see this work.
