I'd say the vast majority of dedicated mastering studios use the internal clock for their converters.

Yep, Trevor built it out and still owns the building, I just rent the room and he moved out East.

I know of a number of mastering houses with multiple rooms that use 'house sync'.

There's a couple folks I know of like Howie Weinberg or Mark Wilder using external clocking on occasion - and there's a couple places like Sterling that has networked signal transfer so you can do things like send from one studio to the cutting lathe that's in another room - but again there's rooms in these places that don't use external clocking at all - and tons of other dedicated mastering studios that don't use external clocking whatsoever.

Straight up: even the best external clocking simply can not clock more accurately than a well built internal clock. So - while an external clock can help to correct for a poorly designed internal clocks - or more importantly allow you to sync multiple converters or a long chain of various standalone digital processors - if you're just talking about 2-channels and a shortest signal path as possible using high end ADC and DAC - which is what happens in the vast majority of mastering - external clocking simply isn't needed, and possibly can be detrimental.

Again - the vast majority of professional dedicated mastering studios are using internal clocking. I've researched a LOT in this regard.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Cool - thought it looked familiar! I like what you've done with the room!

You're running Pro Tools, though, right?

Waveburner comes bundled with Logic. You can't get it separately- at least not yet. It's infuriating because this is one kind of program that is seriously lacking for the Mac Platform.

Yeah, I have Logic and Pro Tools, I bought Logic mainly for Waveburner.
Looking forward to Wavelab 7 for Mac later this year.

Hey Chris!

At the beginning of the year..... absolutely loving it here.

I was working out of Dave Harris' room for a few months, but with both of us being pretty busy that was tough having two guys work out of one room, so I have my own place set up now.

I've only had one attended session the entire time I've been here, but I suppose that will change once more people know I'm here.
