NYC Sept 21-28

Post by trodden » Mon Sep 20, 2010 7:41 pm

Hey NYC people and people playing/visiting NYC sept 21-28. My girlfriend and I are spending the week of the 21-28 in NYC. Let us know of cool things happening.. We're keeping our schedule open to any ideas.. so far, all that's planned is finding good food, good beer, and taking it day by day... along with the usual museum/tourist stuff.

good bars, vegan restaurants, dives, venues, studios, shows, anything really...

Cheers,
Brandon

Lupa in the Village. Mario Batali, but very reasonably priced. The chicken diavolo was the best bird I've ever had.

Noodle Bowl, also in the Village. Man, that is good stuff. We also found a terrific little bar over there last time I was there with Mitch Easter that had Smithwick's on draft for $1 (yes, that's ONE DOLLAR) between like 3 and 5PM. I'll try to remember where that place was and what it was called. It was an upstairs place with a neon Smithwick's sign in front. Total life-saver.

there is a great vegan cafe near me in greenpoint called 'boneshakers'... 'bliss' on bedford ave. is pretty solid for brunch... i don't know if 'caravan of dreams' is still open in the east village.

spuyten duyvil in williamsburg is a great bar for great boutique beers.

gonna hit you up on the email.

I think Pavement is playing Central park all week. tickets were kind of expensive, so I stayed away, not sure if they're still available.

San Gennaro festival is happening in Little Italy.

If you're into baseball at all and want to catch a pennant race, relatively inexpensive seats to the Yanks Rays series are available on Stubhub (for as little as 8-9 bucks, plus fees of course.) There's also a free ferry from downtown Manhattan which is kind of nice. https://www.hectkts.com/scripts/max/180 ... tion=order

Lupa is great, and not too expensive. Roberta's in Brooklyn is even better, although it's kind of (ok completely) in the middle of nowhere.

If you're going to Williamsburg, stop in Main Drag, tons of cool old instruments. No deals, but a great shop nonetheless. http://www.maindragmusic.com/md/

Michael Daves plays bluegrass tonight at Rockwood Music Hall. Free show, 1 drink minimum. I think there's a vegan place a bit further south on Allen Street.

I HIGHLY recommend 2 vegan restaurants:

- Kate's Joint - E 4th St and Ave B in Manhattan - amazing diner style menu (They had a Brooklyn location too but sadly it closed)

- Food Swings - Grand St. btwn Roebling and Havemayer in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. - awesome greasy fast food joint, great drunk food

-JV
John Valencia - Freelance audio-recorder-mixer guy
-One East Recording (Matt Wells)
-Melody Lanes (Jay Braun)
