FYI. this guy sucks. pulled this shit us, studio g, who knows who else on here.
first couple sessions he paid, then it got weird. apparently this is nothing new for him, so don't work with him unless you want to lose time and money.

Thanks for this notice! I sold my commercial studio in Chicago years ago in part for having to deal with boat loads of assholes like this. After having to deal, I made it a requirement for my clients to pay in advance in full for sessions. Apparently, many clients did not like this...oh well. To me, if you're not willing to oblige my requests...why should I oblige yours? Now I work from my home suite doing mastering and like it MUCH better....would never go back. I would rather be out of business than float a bunch of free work to deadbeats who reap benefits all without paying. The music biz gets worse every year...sad....

totally...strdsk wrote:I totally agree! But then you get D-Bags like this who argue the restaurant analogy...that they can't pay until after they've eaten the meal. Total BS. To that I say..."My place is carry out only. You pay...then eat" Lol!!
you can always pass...
most people i work with for the first time are pretty understanding. especially with advance booking and scheduling and canceling, etc...
i sometimes do it in 1/3s. 1/3 to book the dates. 1/3 after tracking and 1/3 after mixes. i try to be flexible...
but you have to go with your gut... and feel free to pass on projects that just don't feel right.
i generally have a sense for a person's character 2 minutes after they walk through the door. you can just tell...

Regardless of the specifics, this should serve as a warning to anyone out there that owns a studio.
I refuse to lose my faith in mankind, because of the actions of people like this.
I will continue to trust and enjoy people.
Oh, and the people who DO abuse the generally natured folks that run studios?
You fucking suck. No more no less.
Enjoy your shit pile of a life.
Your irrelevance will be your demise. Bye. We will be doing something that matters to the world as you spend the sorry ass amounts you managed to scheme out of good artists.

"You have to ask yourself one question... 'Do I feel like being a valued member of functioning and ethical society in which each of us is expected to treat his fellow man in the way he or she would wish to be treated?' Well... Do ya, punk?"strdsk wrote:Man Joel...you sounded like Dirty Harry just then! I liked it...lol!
It does have a certain ring to it.
