I remember in high school driving around in my friends car, causing lots of trouble and listening to a lot of Beastie Boys. Anyone that grew up in the 80's or 90's they seemed to be a part of their youth. MCA was a great MC, bassist and song writer. His contributions to music will be missed.

He was also a great director and a genuinely compassionate humanitarian activist. His contributions to the world will be missed. Such sad news...

The guy was a great producer, film maker, human rights activist. He was a badass bassist... One of the "good guys."

I hope he comes back as some sort of fire and brimstone Paul Wellstone type and leads us out of the muck.

Judging by the brevity of this thread, TOMB people might need to get a little educated on him. Here's a fun start:

I found a copy of "Check Your Head" at the library. Wow! Some serious grooves there.

Re: short thread: People are probably speechless.

My fav is Paul's Boutique. That along with De La Soul's "Three Feet High" defined an era for me. Good f'n times.

+1 on "Check Your Head". Serious recording collage of sound. Organic grooves and sounds. Heard it when it first came out at Tower Records and stayed to listen to the whole thing. Bought It. His contribution to music and humanity will be missed.

Tape Oppers might enjoy listening to their instrumentals >>> IN SOUND FROM THE WAY OUT

Whether or not you like their sound (which I do), it is worth checking out Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication just for the production. Lots of creativity going on there...
