Looking for a Philadelphia area Mastering Engineer

Post by sabin333 » Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:50 am

Hi there. I'm almost done mixing my first album and I'd like to work with a mastering engineer who is relatively local. I live in the Philadelphia area.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not sure what my budget is right now. I'm running out of dough (as my wife keeps reminding me, haha), but I'm not looking to skimp on a process as important as mastering.

Can't wait to hear who you recommend.

P.S. the reason that I'm thinking local is that it would be nice to be a silent observer to the mastering process. Do people do that?

Thank you kindly.

Yes, absolutely! I encourage you to find a local ME you can connect with. You may get a lot more out of the process than if you were to do it all remotely.

As far as recommendations, maybe check out Full Circle Mastering in Philadelphia. I don't know Mark personally but I've noticed him around the GS mastering forums.

Congrats on the project!

Sent you a PM.

Also, aside from putting my own mastering services out there, I will +1 and say that Mark over at Full Circle Mastering is a standup guy, great engineer, and very professional. I happen to be friends and beer buddies with him, as well as a client myself (he mastered my band Arctic Splash's first single last summer, which I recorded and mixed).

Thank you both for the recommendations. As I'm still in the investigation phase, I'd still love to hear some more recommendations.

I'm willing to drive an hour or two, so if the engineer is between State College-PA, the Jersey Shore, and NYC then I'll consider them.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. :)

i was gonna recommend both jeff and mark. if you're considering NYC, there's about 80 billion ME's there...i've always liked the stuff i've heard from steve berson....www.totalsonicmedia.com.

Tom Ruff at Asbury Media in Asbury Park, NJ does excellent work and is quite reasonable. He mastered at Sony for years before opening his own place.

Thanks so much. All of these guys sound great. Anyone else?

At this point I'm just gathering names so that I can pull the trigger as soon as mixing is done. So I'm happy to consider all names at this point. Ie: price is not a factor (but distance is a factor since I have to be able to drive there).
