what is there to do for an audio nerd, in this fair city? Any good public exhibits of things that would be interesting? Any studio-owners bored and wanna give a tour? I'll most likely hit some museums and do touristy stuff, but I figure that some NYC tapeOppers might have suggestions.

Are you a tube nerd?
If so, there are a number of other music places near this place, plus a zillion venues/bars/restaurants etc.
And the East River Ferry goes there, which is a cheap quick, sightseeing ride if you time it right.
look up:
Main Drag Music, Southside Guitars (gear)
Earwax, Academy, Rough Trade, Co-Op 87 (Records)
If you're marooned in midtown/ Times Square, go pay respects at The Brill Building and 1650 Broadway, and see where all the amazing songs were written in the '60s. (Although not much to look at today, I must admit.)
