RIP SID, I wonder why it took so long to hit the news??

Sad day for music......

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now theres a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the
Steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend,
You martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the
Steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper,
You prisoner, and shine!
'Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones'

Syd went out gracefully....and NOT because he had mental illness all those years ago (which he appeared to recover from somewhat).

IMO he was much more imaginative in his young age that the other members of PF combined....lyrically, melodically this is so obvious.

If he had only kept it together upstairs.....

i think this article is the best i've seen:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0, ... 71741.html

***
When the death of 60-year-old Roger ?Syd? Barrett was announced on Tuesday, the media raised an astonishing last hurrah for the founder of Pink Floyd, the ?crazy diamond? who had shunned the public gaze for decades.
The descriptions of him as a ?mad genius?, ?recluse? and ?acid casualty? were far off the mark, however, according to his sister Rosemary.
***
"well, it's one louder, isn't it...."
