Satriani Vs. Coldplay

Not being familiar with anything Joe's done lately, I found "If I Could Fly" on youtube and the "hook" on it does sound very close to the Coldplay song (tho I guess I should say that its Coldplay that sounds like Satch). I guess I'm left with this: did Coldplay really try to rip off a Satriani instrumental? Or is this a case of dumb luck?

Ghost Busters/I Want A New Drug
deliberate or accidental...if it goes to trial, the winning money is generally on the side of older piece of music.
Satch and Gwenyth Paltrow should mud wrestle for it while Chris Martin and Michael Stipe make out in the corner.

How about Manic Monday/1999. Those are basically the same song, different words. Both written by Prince, of course ... did he sue himself?RefD wrote:

i hate when i'm working on a tune and digging it and suddenly realise i've been mining someone else's song.

No, it took over ten years. Though Harrison did concede to having heard the Chiffons song.RefD wrote:didn't Harrison concede immediately?dwlb wrote:Also "My Sweet Lord"/"He's So Fine."

Here's a comparison - you be the judge:

Anyway, at least it isn't as blatant as their rip-off of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love".
I was incensed first time I heard Coldplay's "Talk" song. Literally couldn't believe it.

I finally calmed down when I read Kraftwerk supposedly gave them permission ahead of time. To make millions off their melody, apparently..
Kraftwerk - true geniuses of melody and counterpoint. The Bach of our times. I suspect they will continue to influence music for years to come.
Joe S.? Not so much.
[Disclaimer - I'm a long-time Kraftwerk fan since the late '70s. They are one of my all-time favorite musical acts, and they even inspired me to spend $700 of my hard earned high-school money on an Arp Axxe around 1979. So cut me some slack you Satriani fans if I've insulted you, I'm just old and confused these days).
