what's really fun is to listen to steely dan and realize that it sounds nothing like what you *THINK* it sounds like... tons of verb.

Seems like a lot of these same arguements could be made about Rush.

I fucking love Steely Dan. Steely Dan were totally subversive, and I love Fagan's sneer.

Sadly, they lost me after Gaucho, their songs about the plight of immigrants and drugs and their grit and balls - Fagan's seething, jeering, sneering voice- replaced by an image of old wilting lecherous urban smooth jazz pussies - so sad to me.

Elliott Randall, I believe.

I trust you've made a superior contribution to the world of music . . . ? Since you're sneering and all.

I trust you've made your own equal contribution to the musical universe . . . ?

Elliott Randall?

i sit corrected.

Could you also go say that to the dude on the 15 songs thread who doesn't like "Surrender" by Cheap Trick?

JFTR I like "Reelin' In The Years." Though I like "Hey Nineteen" more.

If you want me to, sure . . .

fwiw, not liking is cool. However, I get cranky when the not liking has a condescending vibe to it, like someone else's work is shit. In my experience, most musicians who have an audience -- Cheap Trick, Steely Dan, or whoever -- have some kind of musical gift, and I respect that even when I hate what the band in question does with their abilities. As it happens, I hate Cheap Trick's stuff, but that doesn't mean I could do what they do. So I don't call them "awful" -- just annoying to my tender sensibilities.

Without fail, every musician that I love and admire tends to have a side to them that just makes my stomach crawl up the wall. :???:

Like the Peter Gabriel and Keith Richards duet of "Puff the Magic Dragon" (not really true - just a fake example)
