Late 60's / Mid 70's Grateful Dead. Some of these records sound really great.

Melvins- The Bride Screamed Murder. Regardless of whether you like what they do, the Melvins always confound expectations, and have done so again. There's everything from military call-and-response chanting on the first song to creepy acapella ballad on the last, by way of a dark treacly cover of My Generation which replaces the brashness of The Who with creeping dread.

I just finished mastering the new Creeping Weeds record ("creeping justin" here on the TOMB and company), and I seriously cannot stop listening to it. Can't wait until I can pass this one on to everybody!

I was listening to that the other day too. Such a good record. I love the bass sound on "Fearless." The whole album just has a great feel.

Last couple days...

Timbre Timbre - st - pretty intersting stuff, definately worth a listen. some great organ parts, and songs that build in a fantastic way.

AA Bondy -When the Devil's Loose - solid record that didn't get too much notice around here. The acoustic guitars sound great on this record.

Betty LaVette, Interpretations: The British Rock Song Book

See, this older soul singer covers a buncha Brit stuff and re-makes Elton, Zep, The Moodies, Stones, Animals, Clapton, The Who, and various Beatles, etc.

I mean she remakes 'em as hers.

Yep, most of 'em she now kinda owns - ya heard it here first.

My fave is "Wish You Were Here", what she makes into a love song; this from a guy who hates Floyd.
.
======================================

Ian Hunter, Man Overboard

This geriatric rocks harder than you, and 99% of the world, inna Mott the Hoople sense. I mean, there's the kinda folkie songs, the rockers, the Springsteen-esqe (a thing Hunter actually did first, and yes, *Bruce does a duet here), the stomps, the psuedo-(country)-funk, and that voice what sounds like it is wearing the shades.

Fookin' lovely.

* Bruce and Hunter each do a duet on the latest Alejandro Escovedo - what is pretty cool.
