If you dig the Drawbars, you may appreciate another project I'm in with the bass player, David Nesselhauf, and the producer who engineered The Drawbars' album, Dennis Rux.
It's called "The Angels of Libra".
Dennis' initial idea was to recruit a collective of studio musicians that he could offer as resident bands to various artists who wanted to work with him.
So the core band — Dennis, David (bass), Lucas Kochbeck (drums), and me — rented a little hut in Denmark for a week, rolled up with a Tascam 388, a philicorda, Wurlitzer, my Space Echo, an old teardrop kit, and an AC30, and came back with twelve basic tracks to seed to various singers.
We've put out a couple of soul bangers with Maiiah and a 7" single with Shawn Lee, followed by the album "Nathan Johnston & the Angels of Libra" last year.
A Wu-Tang-style hip-hop track featuring Joél David came out earlier this year, and our second album "Revelations" just came out yesterday.
"Revelations" is one my favourite things I've ever worked on. Though I do love how the first album starts off sunny and light and gets progressively darker and epic over the course of two sides.
