[insert broad sweeping judgments based upon entire thread]

i finally understand why a lot of the records of today suck. its because all the engineers hate good music.

-

i understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everything, but yours is wrong.

[insert smiley face- if i have to]

oh and id have to say pink floyd - i have a lot of respect for them doing their thing at that time and paving the way for more experimentalism by later folks, but ive just never been in a pink floyd state of mind - you know pink marker on a fringe covered, stone washed, jean jacket. it escapes me

and i fucking hate metallica and most of all other "metal". anything that make people walk around on stage with their dick in there hand.

To appreciate Pink Floyd properly, you really need to listen to the Adam Heart Mother and Ummagumma albums an hour or two after eating a couple hits of LSD. After that, the later albums make more sense. (Of course, after that, everything will make more sense  )

BTW, I agree about the metal bands - - around here, they're called MAD bands. (It stands for Mad At Dad.)

Overall, the trick isn't to find famous recording that you hate - - (the shit is everywhere! There's no escape! Ahhhhhhh!)

No, the trick is finding something you can stand to hear at all.

Or, hear more than once.

Or, extremely rarely, hear it over and over just because it's sooo fuckin good! Now THAT's a thread I'd definitely pay close attention to....

Here's to painting a target on my e-chest:
Generally these artists have a couple (or in some cases a small handful) songs/compositions that are ok, everything else I hate.

Charlie Parker
Neil Young
James Brown
Guided By Voices
Elloit Smith
The Doors
Hayden
The Beatles
Springsteen
The Rolling Stones
Palestrina
Return to Forever (not chick corea's album by that name, but the band after)
and many more

And I do say this with all due respect to thier talent, originality, significance, etc... I just don't like them all that much.

I usually find myself wondering the same thing after a post like that. Like, whatever this dude likes must be incredibly awesome.

Guided by voices has to be one of the lamest band names ever, I can't listen to them simply based on that.

No, no, "System of a Down" is much more lame.

Okay now you have to come over, i'll hold you to that. I'll buy you a cinzano and lime for agreeing with me.

Here's a bunch of repetition with a few twists:

Nirvana (all) - I like 'Scentless Apprentice' and the sound of the chorus on 'Come As You Are' (far from legendary regard)

Marquee Moon

Metallica - It's hard to not like the 'Enter Sandman' riff, otherwise same as Nirvana

Pearl Jam - why would so many people choose to imitate?

U2 - great for relieving third world debt, otherwise blah. 'Bullet the Blue Sky' is the keeper.

White Stripes - it's like soul without soul

Beatles - undeniably brilliant, but not interested

Springsteen - like U2, decent politics

And if Eric Clapton is God, Johnny Marr is God's daddy.
