Enough Claptonbashin' let's praise Roy Orbison!

Post by ;ivlunsdystf » Wed Dec 07, 2005 9:15 pm

Public TV is fundraising and as bait they are showing a 1987 video with Roy Orbison and his friends running through his old catalog of fine tunes. Elvis Costello playing a vox organ or some such, a spry Bruce Springsteen grinning ear to ear, Tom Waits in the background playing inaudible rhythm guitar and bobbing his head, etc. etc. etc. Roy Orbison was too cool. Many others are present. Makes me want to pick up a Tele, grow mutton chops, and gain 50 pounds!

Why should we keep Clapton bashing when we could be extolling Roy Orbison?

I remember that special. It really is wonderful, as was Roy!

I've got that special on VHS, great stuff.

Orbison was one of the finest singers ever. Led one hell of a tragic life too.

Good call,

That guy was insanely tasty in everything he did.

Sorry about the Crapton bashing.

What egregious, execrable, hoky poky fucking horse manure for a bunch of clueless, tired old white people that live in the middle of nowhere. You guys are a riot. Roy Orbison, ha ha ha ha.

thanks for the valuable contribution, hammer.

isn't "excrable...manure" redundant?

Is there an "ignore posts by __________" function on this board?

The Traveling Wilburys first disc is still so great.

I know it's not his prime years but even in his last days Orbison's voice was beautiful (ie You're Not Alone Anymore).

His last album, Mystery Girl was pretty good too.

That special is out on DVD with a few extra songs, and there is a record.

Tommy Dills, Roy and the Wilbury's engineer died this year about two months ago here in Memphis. I got to work with him a few times, he had a setup similar to mine. I was looking forward to working with him some more. He was a truly great guy.
All Hail Tommy Dills! And Roy! They're working together again!

Yes, Hammertime, you're a dipshit.

My friend owns that silverface Twin Reverb that Orbison used in that special.

Dude, I don't usually get personal. I criticize some dude that none of us know, and never will know, who's a millionare 10 or 15 or 100 times over, so he probably couldn't care less about a bunch of clowns on the tapeop website. But since you get personal (go ahead ban my comments, Chris), if you like this shit, you are a sorry ass cat, and that's that.

Hammertime, it's one thing to criticize, you got nasty and spoke ill of the dead. I don't care what your situation, it's not looking good on you. You're better than that, we all are.
Harumph!
