Rock1rOCK2-

Though the TOMB system will soon negate all evidence of this fact, it is significant and it must be hereby noted that your post in this thread was apparently your 666th post here at the TOMB - cool.

He plays to many notes on that album. The only song I really like on it is Naima. Charlie Parker is that way too - to many notes. But when they settle down and focus on the melody, I think they sound great.

Now my turn to commit blasphemy,....

I didn't really like Coltrane's sound on soprano sax on My Favorite Things.

Derek and The Dominoes - Layla, I've always liked the song Layla, but even that is wearing a bit thin now. The rest of the tunes on that album make me feel like I have bad, bad hangover and I stink.

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Was a great live performer and guitar player, just can't listen to his CD's anymore. The only time I can tolerate it is when he does stuff beyond the standard blues changes.

U2 - Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum, a lot of people can't stand any of their music, maybe it's just Bono's persona. I do think they are capable of some pretty bad stuff - but also some pretty decent music at times.

Nirvana - I've said many times they were way overrated, I think Gen-X was desparately trying to find a rock hero in Kurt Cobain. I'm willing to go back and try to listen to them again but I've tried many times already, and time is running out for them.

Radiohead - Their music is really depressing, I can listen to them and appreciate the craft they put into it though. You can get a good song or two on each CD maybe.

Green Day - I think they paved the way for the whiney frat boy vocal sound you hear so much today. That Lonely Road song is OK.

Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin, I really tried to like it but I gave up. I could never play that whole CD all the way through.

....jeez there is so much more.

I didn't like the Beach Boys either, but I'm growing to respect some of their music. I heard a good remastered version of Good Vibrations on XM radio, alongside some music of what's being done today in pop. It really blew the other stuff away, I mean no one really composes music anymore on pop radio.

That song really took some thought,......

Yeah the Beatles stuff doesn't turn me on as much. I do like Strawberry Fields and Tommorrow Never Knows. A few tunes here and there, but generally I don't listen to them.

I have a great deal of respect for them though, we've got to realize that in 1965-67 they raised the bar on what bands could do with their music in the studio.

"What's Left of Me" is critically acclaimed by MTv and Teen Magazine, I just cant' get into it. I should like it, but I don't. Am I flawed?

Charlie Parker
Neil Young
James Brown
Guided By Voices
Elloit Smith
The Doors
Hayden
The Beatles
Springsteen
The Rolling Stones
Palestrina
Return to Forever (not chick corea's album by that name, but the band after)
and many more

And I do say this with all due respect to thier talent, originality, significance, etc... I just don't like them all that much.
What DO you like?!?! Me'al?
I usually find myself wondering the same thing after a post like that. Like, whatever this dude likes must be incredibly awesome.
Not awesome, just different from what I don't like in some subtle way that I can't explain or quantify in any meaningful way. Admittedly, I might be "wrong" for not liking many things, but thats just how it is. I also might be wrong for liking many things. shrug.

I like these, among many others:
coltrane
beethoven
vivaldi
kinks
police
pedro the lion
SRV
helmet
metheny
dinosaur jr
cream
shins

For the record, I do delineate between music I don't like and recordings as works of art. I think there are some genius engineering/production moments in many songs I don't care for. and the other way around.

Well, thanks for answering the question. I'm probably about 50/50 on both your lists, to be honest.

You'll just have to be more specific about what you don't like about this record. Because for my money, that is a very handsome album cover.

Handsome cover, yeth. But the sincere passion expressed on his solo outing, "SoulO" Image (handsome cover as well), is simply not to be found on his most recent release. Take the opening track of SoulO, for example. Brilliant lyrics. Very heart (boner) felt.

"Shut Up"

You say you want me
That you hate me
Try to love me wanna break me
Guess I'm sleeping on the couch again
You say no, when you mean yes
Is this a game some kind of test
Now why cant we just
Turn out the light
Forget how to fight
Cuz we got tonight

Cuz
When we take our clothes off
Don't you know the world stops
When we touch, when we kiss
When we shut up for a moment
We are minded by the one thing
You on me or nothing
When we touch, when we kiss,
When we shut up
Don't say anything at all

You throw a glass straight at my head
Swear up and down you want me dead
I guess love is in the air tonight
You bite my neck, I pull your hair
Next thing we know, no underwear
Now why can't we just
Turn out the light, forget how to fight
Cuz we got tonight

Cuz
When we take our clothes off
Don't you know the world stops
When we touch, when we kiss
When we shut up for a moment (Turn out the light)
We are minded by the one thing (Forget how to fight)
You on me or nothing (We got tonight)
When we touch, when we kiss,
When we shut up
And it just had to be you
When we take our clothes off
Don't you know the world stops
When we touch, when we kiss

We are minded by the one thing
You on me or nothing
When we touch, when we kiss,
When we shut up (Shut up, shut up, shut up)
Don't say anything at all

Use your tongue to wet your lips
Touch them with your fingertips
Don't say nothing else
Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up
Only wanna hear your breath
Your sigh, your scream, you're nothing less
Don't say nothing else
Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up
Shut up

When we take our clothes off
Don't you know the world stops
When we touch, when we kiss
When we shut up for a moment (Turn out the light)

Green Day. When I was a kid everyone liked them and I couldn't understand and now they still seem to be popular and I generally keep my mouth shut about my opinions about them.

Pink Floyd. I really like a lot of things they do and even lots of the songs I hear but I rarely feel like listening to them.

Pearl Jam.

Godspeed...You Black Emperor. So slow.

Metallica. Just because.

I'm suprised to see so many people down on the Beatles and Coltrane, but to each his own I guess.
