Can we pretend that you did not, regardless of the actual outcome?

Spaklehorse fans work for Volvo's advertising department/the ad agency that licensed the song to Volvo. What's the big deal?

What's the big deal?

Car ads suck.

ads suck.

television sucks.

licensing your music to pimp some product on television really sucks.

thankfully, not really a sparklehorse fan.

it's always dissapointing to have a song that you have personal feelings about associated with some product instead. and for the personal relationship that you feel with that song or artist to be sold off to be taken advantage of by the highest bidder.

I have the greatest respect for the artists who don't do it.

Personally, I could care less about a Sparklehorse song on a Volvo ad. I am a fan of Sparklehorse, but I will most likely never see this ad because I am not a television watcher.
I read somewhere that Mark was almost unable to pay his rent because he hadn't released an album or toured in so long, so I'm sure this ad helps...Let's face it, his albums can't sell THAT well.... I'd do the same thing if I were in a similar situation. Kudos to Mr. Linkous.

I totally agree w/ frozen food - why wouldn't you want musicians to make money? Who cares if other people hear the band and like it? Isn't that good for the band and for the overall level of people's taste in music? Couldn't we all broaden our horizons? Haven't you ever heard something on an ad and thought it was good?
If a band is supporting some company with unacceptable environmental or exploitative practices, I could understand (I know nothing about Volvo in this regard, though I hear they make pretty good cars). But just b/c it's an ad!? C'mon...

Y'know, I generally agree with you, but...

Working in a factory with a bunch of chemicals sucks.

Always being late on rent and losing your home every time you go on tour sucks.

Having people take your creativity for granted and stealing the music you struggled to make sucks.

Being ripped off by labels, promoters, etc. sucks.

I had a song in a shitty movie once. It was pretty embarassing. It was also one of the few times I have been paid a fair sum and paid in a timely fashion. I hope to hell it happens again.

not new. it's an older song. 'hundreds of sparrows' from good morning spider

and i think there's nothing wrong with selling the song for an ad. it's money. it's exposure.
