Hmmm... I'd have to agree with whoever said it's been a pretty weak year(but then again I've thought that for a number of years now). Probably forgetting something, but I guess I'd have to say Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped was the best, with Made Out Of Babies' Coward(despite not being nearly as good as their first effort) coming in second, and another nod for Dylan. Neil Youngs Living with War and Isis' Absence of Truth weren't bad either.
Oh yeah, I guess there was a mediocre album by my ex favorite band, but after a decade of love it was too painful watching the gods of prog metal fall from their pedastal.
Oh shit, and my broke ass still hasn't got the new Melvins, which I'm holding out hope for

Show me a sane man and I will cure him for you. - Carl Jung

Jerry Lee Lewis- Last Man Standing- The same producer who hipped me to Lullaby Baxter played this for me. Usually those "take an older pop music hero and pair them with other artists for a lame duets record" sort of things don't do anything for me, but this one is something else. It's got great pairings and great tunes. The record doesn't sound particularly great to me, but the awesomeness of the playing and whatnot totally makes up for it.

I saw the video for Pink Cadillac on CMT the other day and the audio sounded like the worst MP3 I've heard in 7 years. I assume the album doesn't sound like that but still...
Speaking of still. And records this year. And The Boss. Crooked Still is a post grass band out of Boston featuring Springsteen's banjo player Dr. Gregory Liszt (yes, he has a Phd from MIT). They put out a record called "Shaken By a Low Sound" that was produced by Lee Townsend. It's really great stuff.

The Mars Volta - Amputechture - Whoa.
Thom Yorke - The Eraser - I just enjoyed this. Very pretty.
Gnarles Barkley - I know it was all over the radio, but it was pretty fun.
Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins - Relaxing and pretty -
Cursive - Happy Hollow - I shouldn't vote for things I worked on...but I really like it anyway.

some of you guys are crazy. plenty of good music this year.
the one that i think i liked most, listened to the most, and i think is actually a "contribution" to music is Spank Rock's Yoyoyoyoyoyo.
of everything i have heard this year, its the record that seems most like new music. i dont know if its gonna have any staying power... but its the kinda record that appears where you can tell that the artists are digging the same stuff you are digging and they are putting it together in a way that you get all jealous of.
at least for me.
