One-note solos

Post by lg » Fri Apr 06, 2007 8:06 am

ok, i know it's derivative, but the one-chord song thread inspired me to try and think of solos exploiting only one note. i'm sure if i gave it some time i could come up with a few others, but that's where you all come in.

my contribution? lou reed's one-note wonder (okay, a few feedback overtones) on 'nobody but you' from 1990's songs for drella.

enlighten away...

The only guitar solo I can play (and yet it somehow never sounds close to Neil's...)
I saw Arik Marshall (one of the world's great guitarists) play a one-note solo during a live thing once...it was forever, too...totally amazing.

It's funny. I love to talk about the great understated guitar solos in rock, and Cinnamon Girl is one of my all time favorites. Other favorite simple but perfect solos are "Slit Skirts" by Pete Townshend, "Everything So Real" off Eric Matthews' 2nd CD and "Redneck" by Luxuria (late 80's project from Howard (Magazine/Buzzcocks) Devoto).

On Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's first album, there's a trumpet solo with only one note. Can't recall on which song.
